Texas is one of only 15 states still requiring costly and ineffective vehicle safety inspections. Despite over $288 million in annual revenue from this program, studies show little to no impact on improving road safety. In fact, other states that have eliminated their inspection programs saw no significant increase in accidents. This whitepaper argues that it’s time to end the outdated vehicle inspection program, saving Texans hundreds of millions of dollars annually while eliminating an unnecessary burden.
